Hello…The way…
Hello…
The way i went about writing my book was simple.
I figured most people will only talk about writing a book and never do it.
Then there is a tiny percentile that will actually write the book but still do nothing with it.
I figured everyone has at least one book within themselves and in my case, i felt i wanted to make my book a win- win deal with helping others.
I was lucky enough to find a way to get out of that …realm.. for artists, that being the starving artist.
So i wanted to help others within the art of photography to become successful on the business side of the art,
My simple goal was to actually write a small, to the point, book on how i did it so other photographers would not have to waste as much time figuring it all out.
After procrastinating on writing it for years i finally took a year and slowly wrote it.
Then the next phase was to self publish it which i did thru…create space.com
This company walked me thru the process and also uploaded my book for me on amazon.com after i ok’d the final proof of the edit and design of the cover.
The entire process took several months but it only cost me $1200 complete.
At that point your book is tossed on amazon.com with 2 million other books, so if you don’t market your book, it will not be found.
In my case i looked at this process as a simple…goal..to complete in my life.
I figured if i can become a published author, even though it was self published i would then have more confidence to actually help more people by teaching classes for free. I contacted photographer- meet up groups and most of them let me come in and speak to their group about the business side of how to become successful with photography. With having my book completed it made me much more credible to get the ..ok…from the group leaders to allow me to teach a class for them.
After a few months of doing it free i received an offer from a photography group leader to allow me to speak where i can charge a small fee if i included my book to each student.
I said ok and within a few months i had all my cost for creating my book recouped.
And at this point every book i now sell on amazon.com is profit since there is no more costs to have a book listed on that site.
So in sum, i completed a goal most will never complete. I felt great to give back and teach classes for free and had most people come up to me after the class and thank me for not trying to scam them with $1000 classes like other photographers offer. Some told me they took other classes which didnt teach the entire process of how to get their new photography business up and running fast as mine did.
Then when i started to charge a small fee and recouped all my expenses and now into making a little profit, it came full circle of giving back and receiving.
In my opinion, the entire cycle of giving and then receiving is needed to become successful in anything in life.
Here is my book in case anyone wants to see it and you may ask me any questions as well…
